Workshops

Days are getting warmer, and I’m already thinking about summer — and fall — workshops. I’ll have a new *in-person* group starting in late May, running for eight weeks, and an *online* group starting early September, also running for eight weeks.

The summer *in-person* session will start on May 30 and end on July 18. This workshop will include the usual rigorous discussions, but also a new emphasis on that most basic of writing units, the sentence. We’ll talk about how to write sentences, how to analyze them, and how to make them stronger. I’ll be assigning short readings and at-home assignments, all built around that theme. This workshop will be held at a comfortable office location in midtown Manhattan, accessible by multiple subway lines.

The cost of this summer in-person workshop is $650.

The fall *online* session will start on September 5 and end on October 24 — perfect timing for MFA applicants looking to hone their manuscripts, and a great way to kick-start your writing life again after the doldrums of August. We’ll be using WebEx software, which is free for you to download. All you’ll need is a reliable internet connection.

The cost of this fall online workshop is $450.

More details:

* These workshops are open to both fiction and nonfiction writers, and limited to eight participants.
* We will meet weekly, on Wednesday evenings, for eight sessions.
* Everyone will submit work for critique four times — every two weeks.
* Every workshop session will include some discussion of process, to help you move through the resistance that we all face when we write.
* There’s a discount if you sign up for both classes, and payment plans are available.
